Geum

Geum chiloense ( Chilean Avens )
An evergreen groundcover perennial, reaching up to 2.5 x 3 ( rarely over 2 x 2 ) feet, that is native to Chile.
The leaves, up to 12 ( rarely over 8 ) inches in length, form a basal rosette.
The bright red, bowl-shaped flowers, up to 2 inches across, are borne during late spring, often repeating during summer if deadheaded.
Hardy zones 4 to 9 in full sun to partial shade on just about any fertile, well drained soil.

Borisii
Reaches a maximum size of 2 x 2 ( rarely over 1.5 ) feet, with profuse, bright orange-red, semi-double flowers, up to 2 inches across, borne during late spring into early summer.

Dolly North
Orangish-yellow, double flowers. It is also among the most hardy and longer lived cultivars.

Farncombe
Semi-double, orange-yellow flowers.

Fire Opal
Reaches up to 2.5 feet with orange-red, semi-double flowers up to 3.2 inches across.

Lady Stratheden
Reaches up to 2.5 x 2 feet, with double, bright yellow flowers.

Reaches up to 2.5 x 2 feet, with semi-double, scarlet-red flowers.

Tangerine
Reach
es up to 5 inches in height, with bright orange flowers.

Geum coccineum ( Scarlet Avens )
A compact, clumping, semi-evergreen perennial, reaching only 1 x 1.4 feet in size, that is native to the Balkan Mountains in southeastern Europe. It looks best used in mass plantings rather than singly.
The deeply-veined, lightly-toothed, rounded leaves, up to 2 inches wide, are hairy, mid-green.
The intense orange-red flowers, up to 0.7 inches wide, are borne early summer until early autumn.
Hardy zones 5 to 8 in full sun to partial shade on just about any fertile, well drained soil.

Geum montanum
A creeping, rhizomatous perennial, reaching up to 16 x 20 ( rarely over 12 ) inches, that is native from central to southern Europe. It does not form above ground runners.
The pinnate rosette leaves, up to 6 inches in length, are bright green.
The bright golden-yellow flowers, up to 1 + inches across, are borne in small heads from mid spring into early summer.
Hardy zones 4 to 8

Geum reptans
A perennial, reaching up to 9 inches x 2 feet, that is native to Europe. It spreads by aerial stolons that may reach as much as 32 inches in length.
The bright yellow flowers, up to 1.6 inches across, are borne during late spring into early summer.
Hardy zones 4 to 8 in full sun to partial shade on moist, acidic, sandy, well drained soil.

Geum rivale ( Purple Avens )
A clumping, rhizomatous perennial, reaching a maximum size of 3.3 x 2.5 ( rarely over 2 ) feet, that is native to North America and Europe.
The pinnate leaves, up to 12 inches in length, are composed of 7 to 13 toothed leaflets. The foliage is deep green.
The nodding, pink ( with purple sepals ), bell-shaped flowers are borne late spring into early summer.
Hardy zones 3 to 9 in full sun to partial shade, thriving on wet soils. It does not enjoy hot summers.

Album
White flowers, otherwise identical.

Leonardii
Pale orange-red flowers.

Geum rossii
A rapid stoloniferous spreading perennial, reaching up to 1 x 1 feet, that is native to Alaska.
The dissected leaves are green.
The yellow, bowl-shaped flowers, up to 1.6 inches across, are borne during late spring into early summer.
Hardy zones 2 to 5 in full sun to partial shade on moist, cool soil. It does not enjoy hot summers.

Geum triflorum ( Prairie Smoke )
A slow rhizome spreading perennial, reaching up to 16 x 18 inches, that is native to prairies and dry woodlands of central North America ( from Alberta to Ontario; south to Montana to Nebraska to Illinois ).
The ferny leaves, up to 6 inches in length, are downy gray-green.
The rosy-red, nodding flowers are borne during spring.
They are followed by smoky silvery-pink seed plumes.
Hardy zones 1 to 6 in full sun to partial shade. Drought tolerant. Deer resistant.
